You have seen an advertisement in an English newspaper for a job working in the City Museum shop during the holidays. You decide to apply for the job.

Write a letter to the director of the Museum. In your letter,

  • Introduce yourself

  • Explain what experience and special skills you have

  • Explain why you are interested in the job

Response 1:

Dear Sir,

I am writing to you with regard to the open position in your store that I am interested in applying for.

My name is Clary Fray and I am an eighteen-year-old university student who is currently on holiday for semester break. Your advertisement caught my attention in the newspaper because I've always been intrigued with anything related to history, antiques and, well, little corner shops that have a lot to do with both. Being an art student, it is understandable why your store would be the ideal workplace for me.

In my opinion, I'd be quite fitting for this job considering all my above-mentioned interests, as well as the fact that I'm quick with numbers- which would be a necessary skill for cashiering- and am quite knowledgeable in the history and mythological department of most antique items. I've worked part-time as an assistant teacher, a tutor as well as a waitress. Suffice to say, I have adequate people skills and am no stranger to following orders and interacting with customers.

I am interested in the job because, other than the fact that the shop itself is very pleasing to the eye as well as the wallet, it houses items of much interest to me that, I think, I would enjoy working with in terms of explaining and selling said items. The environment is one that I believe I'll enjoy working in. I also need this job to make up the money to buy some textbooks for the coming semester.

I hope to hear your from you soon.

Kind regards,

Clary Fray.
