Response 1

Dear Billy,

Apologies for not writing to you for so long, I've been terribly busy this semester, as you may well know. I heard of your departure from the country- permanent departure, to my dismay- and realized that I still possess the textbook you lent me.

I'd like to apologize for not returning it sooner. Had I know you and your family would be going back to your country, I'd have ensured that I'd returned it to you beforehand. Alas, news travels but doesn't travel as fast as you have, it seems. The book was immensely helpful with my studies and I cannot express how thankful I am that you loaned it to me in such a time of need. I intend on mailing it to you, whatever the cost. Please do let me know how urgently you'll be needing it back.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Kind regards,
