Writing Task 1 – You should spend about 20 minutes on this task || (minimum words limit 150)

You went to the local hospital’s Emergency Department with your young child who had severe stomach pains. You had to wait for almost four hours before your daughter was treated by a doctor and, while you were waiting, you were constantly ignored by the other staff.

Write a letter to the Registrar, complaining about the service you received.

Response 1

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to you with regard to your staff's deplorable manners as well as the delayed service in a matter of utmost urgency.

Being the 'Emergency Department' of the hospital, I had expected to have received a hastier response as opposed to the regular sections of the hospital. What I found was quite the contrary; the response my daughter received was far more delayed than what we'd have received in the regular sectors of the hospital, which is rather shocking. My daughter, suffering from severe pains in her stomach, was bawling in the waiting room and the nurses and doctors simply walked past without even enquiring about the problem. Not only that but they also ignored me when I asked for help; either they'd simply walk past or they'd curtly tell me to 'wait my turn'.

I waited for approximately four hours before my daughter was finally attended to; four hours during which her pain worsened. Upon examination, they found that they had to remove her appendix immediately- I hadn't even known that was the issue. I was informed that, had she not been attended to for much longer, she would have died. I was and still am distraught at the close call; all at the behest of your staff's unscrupulous behaviour towards their patients that almost cost my daughter her life.

I hope the situation of your staff improves soon.

Kind regards,
