Text Box

Writing Task 1 – You should spend about 20 minutes on this task || (minimum words limit 150)

You live in a room in college which you share with another student. You find it very difficult to work there because he or she always has friends visiting. They have parties in the room and sometimes borrow your things without asking you.

Write a letter to the Accommodation Officer at the college and ask for a new room next term. You would prefer a single room. Explain your reasons.

Response 1

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to request to be appointed a different room next term than the one I currently reside in due to inconvenient company.

My current roommate is a pleasant, outgoing extrovert; to my expense, unfortunately. For although he may be pleasant of character, he's very much so at my expense with his loud friends and even louder parties. I am very serious about my studies, as well as an introvert, as far as I know. His rowdy friends not only disrupt my concentration but also tamper with my belongings without my permission; misplacing textbooks and other equipment sorely needed for me to study effectively. My sleeping patterns, that are already tedious to begin with, are further disturbed by their antics. I would sorely like to be as comfortable as I can throughout my studying duration in university instead of being pushed to the end of my tether on both the studies and domestic front.

I would like to change my discomfiting situation without being much of a bother to my roommate and his friends. A single bedroom would better suite my need for focus and solitude, lest I should become a bother to someone else or possibly even be lumped in with another rowdy roommate. I strongly believe I work- or study- better alone. There will be a time when I will be content to spend my time enjoying the company of others. During my studies, however, is not such a time.

I look forward to receiving a positive response to my humble requests.

Kind regards,

Ronald.
