By the advent of this century, social media is one of the fastest-growing industry and has become an inseparable part of a teenager's life. It is evident that social networking sites are impacting the lives of youth greatly. There are several reasons for this accelerating phenomenon. Teenagers, today, are depending on the media for various reasons such as spending time on websites as recreational activities, to remain academically and socially updated, to exchange information with their peers, and so on.

Besides having many positive aspects, social media is having a great negative influence too. With the development of social sites, adolescents are facing plenty of negative opportunities than they had ever before. They stay online on social networks sites and spend sleepless nights without the knowledge of their parents. This disruption of sleep may cause insomnia, mood swings and increasing obesity. In a literal sense, the media is exploiting and using them as puppets in the hands of the puppeteer. Ultimately, they have crippled academically. Finally, the youth has become more antisocial and hostile.

Teenage is an important period for development and few of us pay attention to how social media is affecting our offspring. In the current 'digital era', it is difficult to get them away from technology. However, an immediate responsibility falls on parents to set some boundaries for their kids: limiting the use of technology and helping kids to build healthy self-esteems by involving in their favourite activities. Media can only be used for educational purposes if used sagaciously and under supervision.

Balance is the unsung beauty of this universe, and discoveries are made to benefit humans. Youngsters are so vulnerable to catching the negative folds of social media. Parents and society must play their role to stop the children from the negative use of the Internet.
