The universal law of give-and-take is widely ignored in today's society as we constantly take and completely look past giving. The uncontrollable and rapid growth of waste we humans produce is going unattended to, while our environment suffers. Let us discuss a few aspects as to why that is.

It must be understood that taking care of one's waste, and thus caring for one's environment, does not come as a loss but as a gain for whoever does so. It is often thought to be too much effort or too much of an expense to spend resources on the maintenance of the environment, especially in urban areas. One of the leading causes of the poor environmental state of most communities is due to a lack of initiative to recycle what is used in businesses and households, which I find rather ridiculous. In a struggling economy, resourcefulness is imperative in order to sustain satisfactory living conditions.

The solution to the lack of initiative towards recycling comes to me as quite an obvious one; the government should offer a better award to community members who make it a duty to recycle what they can. Additionally, waste disposal is no child's play; waste disposal sites should be just as adequately maintained as the waste-collecting itself. Efforts should be made to minimize the impact of the waste disposal sites on the nearby areas and also minimize the amount of garbage accumulated by either destroying it using various techniques or starting community projects aimed to help recycle the accumulated waste.

Dependency on the thought that, if the problem gets big enough, then, and only then, will we be willing to deal with it. That is a toxic outlook to have on any sort of problems. We only have one Earth, we should care for it now before it's too late.
