You recently stayed in a hotel in a large city. The weather was very unusual for the time of year and the heating/cooling system in the hotel was quite inadequate.

Write a letter to the manager of the hotel. In your letter:

  • Give details of what was wrong
  • Explain what you had to do to overcome the problem at the time
  • Say what action you would like the manager to take

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to express my concern about the inadequate facilities in my hotel room for harsh weather.

As you may well know, last night's weather was entirely irregular, considering the current season. Freezing weather in the middle of summer, as you can imagine, was rather unexpected- the weather forecasts hinted at nothing of the sort. Consequently, I was ill-prepared for such a thing- having packed flimsy summer clothes with no warm backups.

There is was I assumed was a functioning air conditioner installed in both the bedroom and lounge. Upon having need of said airconditioners, I switched them on only to realize that they were malfunctioning, with only the cooling function operational. So warming the room using the air conditioning provided was out of the question. I tried calling reception but received no response. I got into bed early so as to warm myself up, only to find that there were only flimsy covers on the bed with no warm blankets. I was at a loss for what to do; so desperate, in fact, that I unhooked some curtains from the bedroom and used them as blankets as I went to sleep.

Please do see to it that your equipment is adequately maintained for times such as these. Additionally, ensure that there is no delay when it comes to attending to your clients as I received no response in a time of need.

I hope the situation is resolved with the utmost haste.
