With the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), some believe that human creativity will be threatened. Do you agree or disagree?
From an analytical perspective, prospects of the detrimental impact of emerging technologies often spark bitter controversy among top academics. In the given context, I tend to disagree with the statement that human creativity will be threatened by artificial intelligence. Before expanding this discourse further, let us discuss why this is the case.
There are two fundamental reasons why artificial intelligence is fostering human cognitive abilities: convenience and accuracy. The foremost factor in favor of this viewpoint is the saving of precious time. Previously, it took hours to fetch data from the internet and then single out the most accurate and relevant information. Thanks to technology, it is now a matter of seconds. The database of modern AI-based systems enables researchers and ordinary individuals to access refined information, and for this reason, we witness far better use of language online.
The second plausible explanation is authenticity. There was an inundation of false information or useless data on the internet. In the recent past, scholars usually pushed themselves to the limits to access original sources; however, it now takes no time to locate the original sources of the latest journals and studies. All this has become possible after the advancement of artificial intelligence.
Conversely, opponents rightly argue that humans resist leaving their comfort zones. They further their argument by offering a reasonable justification: the adverse use of modern technology is palpable. According to their perspective, young learners are unnecessarily using ChatGPT—an AI-based application—to accomplish their academic tasks. This behavior could bring negative outcomes for the learners.
In summary, I believe that in the near future, AI-based applications do not pose an immediate threat to the academic sector. However, their positive use could open new dimensions for human creativity, as they save precious time and provide users with access to authentic sources.
